Reflections Of Amsterdam - Catch Me If I Fall

Slightly edited shot of my lovely new bike, Lord Bikenheimer, standing in the street in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing besides some fiddling withe contrast and saturation, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

Me and the fabulous Lord Bikenheimer went out last weekend to take some puddle pictures of her Lordship and we found some nice wet spots, but when I started filming her, she fell over and crashed onto the hard concrete, luckily not hurting herself or others, but it always sucks to see your brand new bike kiss the ground for the first time :)

If you want to see her crash, watch the movie on my YouTube page!

Reflections Of Amsterdam - Let...

Unedited shot of trees and shrubs in the Westerpark in Amsterdam, reflected in a little pond. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

The last days have been very wet, windy and cold, not a good start for the Summer season, so I'm trying to hypnotize the weather gods with this picture and force some sunshine out them...let's hope this works, it's almost June now, I'm tired of wearing Winter clothes and all this rain can't be good for my new bike, the fabulous Lord Bikenheimer :)

I've made a wicked reflection movie of this pond too, check it out on my YouTube page!

I think I've said it before, the only thing that cars are good for is to shoot reflection pictures on their various shiny surfaces...I can never believe that people actually squeeze themselves into these little metal boxes and spend considerable periods of their life inside of them...whatever happened to 'Thinking outside the box'?! Bikes are the best! And I'm not just saying that because I know that Bikey and Lord Bikenheimer are reading this...when was the last time you've been on a bike? If the answer is something like 'Years ago' or 'When I was a kid', I order you to go out right now and get yourself a bike for a couple of hours/days/weeks/years to refresh your memory during a nice long ride why it is so much fun and good for you :))

Meet 'Lord Bikenheimer'!

Slightly edited shot of the new best bike in the world. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing besides some added contrast&saturation :)

I finally did it, I bought a new bike, yay! It took me months of research and visiting every online- and offline bike shop in the world, but I finally found a worthy replacement for my beloved Bikey, the former best bike in the world.

It wasn't easy, even after having found a bike that looked like it could fill my beloved Bikeys giant foot steps, the guy selling it just didn't seem to want to sell it to me...understandably, it is a pwettypwetty bike and I would not give it away for money or good words...somehow my daily visits for a whole week, combined with the substantial cash wads that I kept 'dropping accidentally' on the work floor, must've convinced him though that it's easier to build me a bike and get rid of me, than to keep up with my penetrating presence in his shop, lucky me :))

Of course a new bike needs a good name, but to my surprise she (the bike, clearly a girl!) had already thought of one and introduced herself as 'Lord Bikenheimer' to me...I said 'But you're a girl' and tried to overcome the painful silence that followed this stating of the obvious by snapping some shots of her special area...we agreed that until something better comes up, she'll go by 'Lord Bikenheimer' and we'll all try to forget this little episode of bike'ish gender-bender confusion, this is Amsterdam after all ;-D

What a Lordy bike :))

Reflections Of Amsterdam - Here...

Unedited shot of the Spuiplein, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

Today I am going to try to buy a new bike...I say try, because I've been going back to this cool little shop where I found the perfect replacement for Bikey, but for some strange reason, the guy who runs it does not seem to want to sell his bikes...

I went there the first time a week ago and said "This is a perfect replacement for Bikey, I take it", but it wasn't ready to be sold yet, so he promised to assemble one just for me the next day, to meet all my demands and needs. The next day he was really busy, so we agreed that I'll come back Tuesday, only he wasn't there when I came Tuesday and no bike for me either...

Wednesday he told me that something had come up and he did not manage to build my bike, but tomorrow...when I left his shop, I realized that I had a flat tire, so I left Bikey with him for a last repair before it'll enter its deserved retirement...

Today is the big day, he swore on his Grandmothers grave (no he didn't!) that today we'll finally manage to get it done, he knows that it's his last chance and I hope for all of us that he keeps his word, I want that pwettypwetty bike and I want it now...wish me luck, I've never had such problems to get rid of my money, haha :D

I've shot a wickedcool reflection movie of this puddle too, watch it on my YouTube page!

Bikey - Vague Memories

Unedited shot of the best bike in the world, reflected in a puddle on the Utrechtsestraat in Amsterdam. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

After 3 1/2 years of dutifully serving under me, my beloved Bikey has finally reached the end of its life as a work horse and will retire this week...

We've been through a lot together in the last years, rain, sunshine, snow&ice, hailstorms, a visit to the Dutch Queen, and of course billions of puddles, that we often managed to snap some wicked shots of before riding off into the sunset. We went on a 'Pan European Bike Trip' with the 'Caravan of Love', to open the hearts and minds of our fellow Europeans to the idea of harmonic togetherness across the Continent. We went up- and downhill together. We created my first YouTube Bike-ride movie as a team. We offered lifts, we helped transport heavy equipment, we chilled in the parks together, we made a difference, we made things easier and funner, we made this world a better place...

Bikey will spend the rest of its days taking it easy, offering the occasional ride to a visiting friend or relative, but mainly just snoozing away the days, eating the cigarette butts from the gutter (a nasty habit I never managed to break!) and enjoying the sunshine, knowing that it has offered anything that a bike can offer to its Cowboy, and so much more...I miss you already and I will always fondly remember our years as partners in crime and the circa 20 000 kilometers we made together, you are the best :-D

Of course Bikey will remain more than just a vague memory, we'll see each other every day, as it will enjoy its retirement days just outside my house :)

To show Bikey how much I appreciate it, I've also made some reflection movies of our last ride through downtown Amsterdam yesterday, watch them on my YouTube page!

Bikey - Last Honors

The good people of Amsterdam had asked me if they could show their respect to Bikey one last time, so we had this little parade of bikers biking by, throwing flowers and coins at us, in this shot you see one of the scroogier Amsterdammers, no flowers, no love...

Reflections Of Amsterdam - Only Do...

Unedited shot of buildings reflected in a puddle on the Leidsestraat in Amsterdam. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

Even though I've been dealing with this horrible situation with the Trojan horses attacking my PC last weekend, I still managed to squeeze out some fresh reflection shots of the Amsterdam downtown area...I'm sure you'll share my happiness, excitement and joy, haha :D

It's another sunny, lovely day in the best city in the world and I intend to spend it by buying cool things that I've wanted for some time now, more about this here in the next days...

I've made a reflection movie of this spot too, watch it on my YouTube page!

Unedited shot of houses, reflected in the Singel canal in Amsterdam. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)
