Reflections Of Amsterdam - Looking Into The Future

Unedited shot of some pretty girls standing around at a red light, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing besides a touch of added contrast, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

These girls seem to look somewhat critical into the future, or maybe they're just confused that I'm taking their picture in a puddle while they're waiting for the red light to turn green...whatever the reason, I think they should cheer up, as we are at the brink of a new year, a new chance to fulfill our dreams, hopes and good thoughts, to make new friends, make all those things happen that we did not manage to do in 2009 and to make the very best out of 2010 :))

For me personally 2009 has been a tough year with lots of hard work and tons of stress, but also the year of many happy things and events...here are some of the highlights :)

* January 2009: John Warwick interviewed me for the website 'Fat Talent'
* February 2009: Karel Maat interviewed me for the F+D Fotografie magazine and a wickedcool 5-page article was printed
* March 2009: I've produced my first book with Amsterdam reflections
* April 2009: One of my photos is used to promote the Queensday and causes an international scandal involving Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin
* April 2009: The lovely Miss Zeee printed a limited edition of my reflections on postcards and successfully sold them at the Spring is in the Air Market at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam
* April 2009: The Quind Blogazine published several of my photos and an article I wrote for them
* June 2009: One of my puddle reflections made the 2nd place in the 'In love with Amsterdam' photo exhibition/contest and we went to the 'Krasnapolsky Hotel' to celebrate
* September 2009: My 3rd Flickr Birthday
* October 2009: The 'ABC Treehouse' is showing 11 of my puddle pictures at the AMS * NYC * AMS exhibition
* November 2009: Many of my wicked reflections are shown on giant screens at the N8 Museumnacht at the Stadsarchief, over 4000 people visited and witnessed the wickedness
* November 2009: I've started taking proper puddle reflection videos for my YouTube page
* December 2009: For the first time ever I've managed to take a puddle reflection shot of myself using the timer of my mobile phone cam

What a year :))

Reflections Of Amsterdam - Shouw What You Got

Unedited shot of a mother&child on one bike, reflected in a puddle in front of the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

This mother/child bike situation is a very common one in the best city in the world (and the rest of the country too, of course :), one adult is biking and up to 3-4 kids (bakfiets!) are attached to the vehicle in various positions, either strapped to the bike or hanging from the steel bars in the front, back or side of it, or simply standing on screws or pipes protruding from the main body of their means of transportation, often in a suicidal fashion that clearly indicates that they not care if they live or die, as long as they can force as many bodies onto the metal frame as humanly possible, a bit of a circus-freakshow kinda thing we got going on here, but oh well, it's the 21st century after all :))

Unedited shot of a couple on a scooter, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

Yesterday I went out to do some puddle hunting and lucky me, the conditions were near perfect, I managed to snap some cool reflection pictures and some new movies as well. I'm always amazed at how wicked and Fairy tale like the best city in the world looks when viewed in a puddle and you'll often find me smiling&making happy sounds when I review the things I've just shot :)

Reflections Of Amsterdam - The Patient Panda

Unedited shot of the lovely Miss Monyart and some tourists, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

Last weekend I went downtown to take some puddle pictures and the lovely Miss Monyart joined me to watch me do my wicked thing...unfortunately for her it's very boring to observe the creation of my reflection shots, as I spend all the time running from puddle to puddle, hunching down to take some pictures and hurrying off to the next wet spot. You can see her standing around bored in the background, looking a bit like a Panda who just found out that all the Bamboo in Amsterdam has been uprooted and washed away by the Winter wind...sorry Miss M :)

Reflections Of Amsterdam - The Space Cadette

Unedited shot of a guy with a big headset, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

I really like how this kid looks a bit like a space Cadette with his giant headset...they say that listening to loud music in this way can cause severe damage to the hearing but the typical consumer of such gear usually ignores the kind of advice that sounds like it came from his/her parents, so we're probably witnessing a future generation of hard-hearing, iPod-loving world leaders&astronauts growing up at the moment, hehe :)

Reflections Of Amsterdam - Underground

Unedited mobile phone cam shot of an Amsterdam Metro train, reflected in a puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

Coming home after a vacation is usually the only occasion when I use the public transport system, being on the tram or metro in the best city in the world always gives me this feeling of being somewhere else, like Paris or New York or some other big city and not in our cozy, tiny, lovely Amsterdam, the people look all serious and there's a lot of running going on, not my kind of atmosphere, I prefer traveling at my own speed on my bike :)

Home sweet home!

I love stepping out of the station and seeing my beloved, good old Amsterdam again after having been away, I usually light a ciggie, soak up the atmosphere, watch the people rushing by and take a deep breath, promising myself never to leave again...until my next vacation :)

Reflections Of Amsterdam - Home Sweet Home

Unedited mobile phone cam shot the Amsterdam Central station reflected in a puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

Arriving back home after a vacation is one of the best feelings ever (unless you don't like your home town of course, lol ;) and I'm always glad to be back in the best city in the world, so when I got off the train in Amsterdam after a seemingly endless trip with many different trains and massive delays, thanks to a bit of snow that the Dutch Railways just could not handle, I almost kissed the ground, but it was very wet and dirty, so I didn't, but I could have ;-P

This is a shot I took while hurrying back to Amsterdam after my weekend trip, I was impatient to get home and the fact that the Dutch Railways did not manage to make more than a few trains ride every now and then did not help, it took me hours and many changes on different trains to make it back to the best city in the world, but luckily it all worked out and I did not have to sleep in a station somewhere along the way :)

Angels need to go shopping to, especially around this beautiful time of the year...somebody has to get all those Presents for all the good kids, or did you really think Santa Claus can do this all by himself?
